The Challenge

Greenville Community Church’s house lighting system was failing and difficult to control. The room was dim and uneven, and the lighting was operated from a dimmer sitting on the booth floor—making consistency and simplicity nearly impossible. The overall result was a dark room with limited control and no ability to shape the atmosphere.

Pain Points:

  • Failing house light fixtures
  • Dark, uneven room coverage
  • Floor-based dimmer control (clutter and inconvenience)
  • No flexibility—essentially on/off lighting only

The Goal

The church wanted to clean up the hardware, remove floor clutter, brighten the entire room evenly, and make lighting simple to control. Beyond visibility, they also wanted the ability to set the mood of the room instead of simply flooding it with light.

The Solution

Enhance AVL designed and installed a new, DMX-controlled house lighting system built for reliability, even coverage, and long-term simplicity.

Scope of Work

  • Removed twelve (12) aging house light fixtures
  • Installed twenty-two (22) new Spring Tree Spatial Pendant WW fixtures for improved coverage
  • Repositioned fixtures to create even light across the entire room
  • Ran new DMX and electrical to each fixture
  • Integrated house lighting into existing Lightkey software for centralized control
  • Assessed conduit needs on-site due to the unique structure

Because the room is a sprung tent structure, routing power and DMX required strategic planning and careful execution. Despite those constraints, the system was installed cleanly and efficiently within the project window.

Design Decisions

House lighting is always an ROI conversation. Traditional 0–10V systems introduce multiple control devices and failure points when trying to integrate DMX control. Many theatrical house fixtures are also cost-prohibitive for churches.

Spring Tree fixtures provided a robust, simple, and cost-effective solution with fewer components to fail—ensuring reliability while still allowing full DMX control.

Most importantly, the new system supports worship rather than distracting from it. Instead of just turning lights fully on or off, the team can now adjust levels to match the moment—creating intentional transitions between gathering, worship, teaching, and response.

The Results

  • Even Light Coverage: The entire room now feels consistently lit
  • Mood Control: Full DMX control allows house lighting to complement onstage lighting
  • Improved Visual Cohesion: House lighting now matches stage lighting for a more natural in-room and camera experience
  • Cleaner Booth Setup: No more floor dimmers—streamlined and professional

Feedback from Leadership:

“In love with the upgrade.”
“God said let there be light.”
“This feels brand new.”

This project demonstrates that even house lighting—often overlooked—can dramatically impact how a space feels.

If your room feels dark, uneven, or difficult to control, there may be a simpler, more reliable solution than you think.
